Commission Terms and Conditions
Thank you for choosing me to create your custom work of art! The commission process can be daunting, so I've outlined it step by step.
Please read through the terms and conditions carefully and refer to my available artwork to get a feel for my style and range. For paintings, I generally work with gouache, watercolor, and acrylic paint on paper, canvas, or wood panel. For terracotta flowerpots, I exclusively use acrylic paint. Once you've read through the process and reviewed my portfolio, reach out via my website’s contact page, or email me directly at blackdaisyartstudios@gmail.com to submit your request for a custom piece.
By proceeding with the commission process, you are agreeing to all stated terms and conditions herein. Please contact me if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you for supporting my small business, and I can’t wait to work with you!

Example request:
Hi Bonita,
My name is _________, and I'm reaching out to request a custom painting of a young woman on a tree swing, based on the attached reference image. I'd like the painting to have a 90s, suburbia aesthetic with a background of a neighborhood with lots of trees and maybe a distant mountain range. I would like a 9x12" finished piece, and you can have creative freedom on the media. Can you give me a quote on price, as well as an estimate of the turnaround time?
Sincerely,
_________
Receive a quote and estimated completion date
Quote:
Once I've received your commission request, I will respond and provide a quote for your request which will consider the following:
1. Size of image
- 8x10 - pricing starts at $450
- 9x12 - pricing starts at $600
- 11x14 - pricing starts at $800
- 16x20 - pricing starts at $950
2. Complexity/number of subjects
3. Usage (there are additional fees for commercial and/or exclusive use rights)
Estimated Completion Date
Additionally, I will provide a general timeline for the remainder of the process. Please note, depending on the time of year and other professional/personal
commitments, timelines may vary. While I will do my very best to accommodate all
desired deadlines, no guarantee can be made. If a request is time-sensitive, a
rush fee may be applied. Domestic shipping within the United States is included in the price; however, international shipping will increase price. Please let me know if you are located outside of the United States when submitting your request.
If I don’t feel I can accommodate any part of your request, I will let you know in advance and decline the commission.
Approve concept sketch and pay deposit
Once we have agreed on the deadline and quote, I will create a concept sketch of your request to arrange the composition and identify a general color palette.
After the sketch has been approved, a deposit of 50% of the total quote will be required to begin the final illustration. All payments will be invoiced through
the Shopify processing platform, where an invoice will be emailed to you that
can be paid using a debit or credit card. I do accept Apple Pay, Zelle, and
PayPal upon request.
Changes/modifications to your commission
I want to ensure you love your custom artwork, so I am happy to allow a few adjustments during the sketch and painting phases. Naturally, changes are harder to make as the piece nears completion, so please feel free to communicate anything that I could change to provide you with the best finished product.
Approve completed illustration and pay final balance
Once the painting has been completed, a low resolution, watermarked image will be sent for final approval. Once final payment has been received, I will ship the final illustration and provide the client with a link to download the high-resolution digital version of your painting. Shipped paintings are sent in stay-flat mailers and packed between foam sheets to prevent bending and resist damage, and packages will have insurance protection to cover the cost of the painting.
Please note that I am not responsible for any lost or damaged packages once they have been shipped, but I will assist in submitting an insurance claim.
Cancellation/refunds
If you choose to cancel your commission after you’ve paid your deposit, please note that it will serve as a cancellation fee to
compensate for materials, labor and time spent. Unfortunately, due to the custom nature of commission work, I do not offer refunds.
Rights and usage
You may display your custom artwork online/on social media, as long as the image is properly credited. [Credit is defined as identifying the artist’s name and contact information (website, social media handle, etc).]
*You may not use or reproduce my artwork for commercial or retail purposes, unless permission is given in advance and you've paid for commercial use rights.
As the artist, I reserve the right to use the final illustration for portfolio purposes, and, unless exclusive use rights are purchased, to sell prints or other merchandise featuring the painting.
